Wednesday 13, Witchgrinder @ Billboard The Venue, Melbourne (01/11/2013)
Back in February, I interviewed a man called Joseph Poole, or as more of you may know him, Wednesday 13. He told me that he was planning a Halloween tour for his band and sure enough, that's exactly when they returned to our shores, thanks to Soundwave Touring.
Opening act Witchgrinder set the tone for the night, tearing the small crowd to shreds! The industrial metal band play through a very tight half an hour set, which includes tracks from their debut album The Demon Calling.
Frontman Travis Everett's screaming/growling type vocals and Ryan Potts guitar solos are a stand out. Their 2010 debut single Trioxin 2-4-5 brings their set to a close.
After a thirty minute change over Wednesday 13 hit the stage one by one, with each member getting a huge cheer. The band play through tracks from all of their albums, mainly focusing on The Dixie Dead which was released earlier this year. There's even homages to the late horror actor Vincent Price with The Ghost of Vincent Price and Michael Myers of the Halloween movie series with Haddonfield.
Covers of Frankenstein Drag Queen From Planet 13 songs such as Rambo and 197666 had most of the die hard crowd singing every word. I Walked With A Zombie from the album Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying and the Dead brings the main set to a close.
With the crowd wanting more the band don't disappoint with a three song encore including another Frankenstein Drag Queen song in I Love To Say Fuck before they end their ninety minute set with Bad Things.
Wednesday and the band certainly know how to put on one hell of a show, not only is Wednesday's voice absolutely fantastic live but he and the band demand your attention for the whole time they are on stage. With the promise of a another tour next year everyone at the show, including myself, keenly wait for that announcement so we can do this all over again.
