Who are we?
Hello, and welcome!
The 59th Sound was founded in March 2011 by Luke Sutton.
Beginning as a journalism outlet for a small circle of local writers and photographers, The 59th Sound has grown to become one of Australia's biggest independent websites, with over 30,000 readers per month, and over 150 contributing writers and photographers located across Australia.
One of my key goals on The 59th Sound is to give our up and coming writers and photographers the chance to earn experience and contribute to a media scene which is often incredibly hard to break into. We want to create and help provide these amazing opportunities for them, but at the same time to share the message that it's important to support your local music scene.
For our readers, The 59th Sound is a completely non-profit website. The 59th Sound is void of any commercial advertising in the hope of giving our users a unique experience in viewing our online material. We don't receive donations or funding of any kind. There are no sign-up fees, no log-in details, and no online passes to access restricted material. Everything is yours to read and view, to make sure that everybody has the same 59th Sound experience.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us directly at [email protected] or drop us some old fashion mail (we love it!) at
