The Belligerents – Infatuation (Single) (15/04/2012)
It’s clear from their name that The Belligerents are certainly not content with just sticking to the codes and conventions of indie pop. Rather, this local five piece will do anything to stand out from the crowd, which is extremely evident from their most recent single, ‘Infatuation’.
The unconventional staccato vocals coupled with the persistent bass line work well to get you singing along with singer Lewis Stephenson. The synth beats and voice loops of the chorus could be considered reminiscent of Two Door Cinema Club, but the boys put their own signature on this familiar indie pop sound by injecting the tune with cheeky lyrics.
Taking us “unconventionally”, the song’s seemingly simple narrative is contrasted with some crafty lyrical work. Special mention must be made to the use of the word “equilibrium”, which surprisingly finds its way into the tune.
An undisputedly catchy tune that doesn’t fail to have you feet tapping, The Belligerents certainly don’t fail to infatuate us with their brand of indie-fied pop.
