Tara Simmons – Where Do You Go (10/04/2012)
Brisbane based songstress Tara Simmons has backed her first single release ‘Be Gone’ with another teaser ‘Where Do You Go’ from her forthcoming album , ‘It’s Not Like We’re Trying To Move Mountains’, due for release in July. Co produced by the singer herself and Yanto Browning (The Jungle Giants), this synth laden electro infused pop single also includes two B-Side remixes of ‘Be Gone’.
This track very nearly didn’t make the cut, it went through a series of different forms before morphing into the dancey tune it is today. Tara’s light harmonic vocal floats above a heavy fusion of buzzing synths, popping electro keyboard effects and a snappy almost Casio beat. The song follows the efforts of our heroine to keep away from a former lover, as she boldly throws out the lines ‘make a space for me I don’t want you to forget me, you have written words, I have evidence you left here’.
Jonathan K one half of YesYou is responsible for first of the remixes for single ‘Be Gone’ and he takes it in his stride, opening with a funky jangling jungle beat before leading us into zappy electronic gaming effects topped with dreamy echoing vocals. Arundel, an emerging Brisbane producer creates more of a spacey ambient atmosphere through the use of a pattering staccato beat and drawn out synth harmonies. He artfully switches the vocal in and out, applying different styles of echo effect and modulation.
‘Where Do You Go’ has its charm, it’s a great accompaniment to any crazed hipster shuffle on an indie night club floor and the remixes add another entertaining element to the single. From what has been released so far, it seems there are good things in the works for the new album and ‘Where Do You Go’ only adds to the intrigue of what is yet to come.
