Tara Simmons - Be Gone (26/02/2012)
These tracks from Tara Simmons are a sample of her forthcoming album due for release in early 2012. The album is a “wide-eyed, sonic and visual direction change” according to the women herself and that is very very evident in the first single ‘Be Gone’.
Be Gone incorporates an electronic harmony line and is a song with a strong undercurrent of energy and movement. The title in itself shows a bit of the songs energy; the energy behind the lyrics of ‘Be Gone’ are moving Simmons and the song forward. The lyrics are a little bit repetitive in that Be Gone is probably heard over twenty times as the main chorus but it creates a moveable and memorable affect in the music. An almost stuttering of the sound two-thirds of the way through the song gives the song new energy when it pipes up again with Simmon’s voice. This track is very fun to listen to and a great look at the forthcoming album.
Honey is almost a complete flip to the first single. Compared to the electronic harmony of Be Gone, Honey uses instruments very particularly. The song carefully layers the piano, her own voice, bells and later drums; this is masterful as each layer adds a certain feeling and depth to the song, voice and lyrics.
The standout track is definitely Honey; which at its very base is stunningly beautiful. Be Gone is a great track and the energy in it fits with the atmosphere of modern Australian music. It can be presumed that the upcoming album will be a mash of beauty and energy, which mix exceedingly well if this sample is what we see on the album.
