Soundgarden @ Festival Hall, Melbourne (24/02/2015)
In the country to headline Soundwave Festival 2015, Soundgarden's headline show at Festival Hall saw the Seattle rockers put on one of Melbourne's most memorable, and intimate sidewaves in the festivals history.
With no support act on the bill, it was a rare moment with the crowd comprising entirely of Soundgarden fans, who the band thanked endlessly throughout the night for their continued support. Front man Chris Cornell even declared early into the set that headline shows like tonight where the audience is purely Soundgarden fans are his favourite shows over festival slots, treating the audience to a different set than the one they had witness at Soundwave two nights earlier. |
Touring
on the back of their latest record King Animal, Soundgarden's set touched on new
material, while long time supporters of the ban were thrilled that there was a large focus on their now 21 year old
album, Superunknown. Highlights throughout the set included Matt
Cameron's phenomenal drumming, as well as songs Outshined, and Black
Hole Sun, while the onstage bromance between Cornell and guitarist Kim
Thayil was incredible, to say the least.
A two song encore of Limo Wreck and Slaves & Bulldozers cemented the fact that Soundgarden are back at what they do best; delivering A+ rock shows that modern bands today could learn a thing or two from.
