Simon Jones - The Holidays (17/03/2014)
All Time High is a pretty swish track. It steers away a little from the sound you guys have become so well-known for. Was that an intentional decision or just a reflection of you guys growing as a band?
We definitely don't like to repeat ourselves, I think All Time High could have gone right out into the space-disco world but we made a conscious decision to keep the essence of it close to the Holidays vibe, with some new tricks.
Can you describe the sound and feel of the new LP?
Kind of a blissed out zen feel mixed with something darker and fuzzier.
You recorded your first LP in a wintry situation yet produced a beautifully paradisaical record chocked full of summer anthems. Where did you record Real Feel? Has that influenced the sound at all?
All over really, I think the first record was all about escapism, luckily it allowed us to get out there and see the world, I think this one is a reflection back on that a bit.
You guys are about to tour Real Feel, hitting up venues such as the Corner Hotel, and The Zoo. What can your fans and newcomers expect from these shows?
Well this new album really lends itself to deep grooves and freestyle jamming, so there will be a touch of that, but also some nice moments of golden oldies (not that old) straight up!
If you were to collaborate with any Australian artist at the moment, who would it be, and why?
I'd like to make a synth-funk album with Nick Cave.
Finally; Led Zeppelin, or The Rolling Stones, and why?
Ooh thats a tough one, I grew up with Led Zep IV, so I'd have to go with them.
Thanks for your time, good luck with the tour!
Thanks!
