Rescue Ships - City Life 23/07/2012)
Rescue Ships recently supported Josh Pyke on his national 'Only Sparrows' tour, and with their accessible indie-folk they certainly fit in the same niche as the singer-songwriter from Sydney.
Interestingly, it is the b-side to 'City Life', their most recent single, that is the most exciting. It showcases a more introspective tone than the former, with stirring strings and ethereal harmonies. Acoustic guitar is gently strummed, plucked and hummed over. It's soothing and majestic.
The title track, is more up-tempo folk, with piano accordion and sweet poppy melodies, and male-female harmonies. It's certainly radio-friendly, but lacks the depth of the b-side 'Joan'. They're a band worth a keeping an eye (and ear) on.
