Rainman - Bigger Pictures (22/06/2012)
Rainman asks us to consider the ‘Bigger Pictures’ in his new album. The album tracks focus on certain moments, topics, states of the mind or places and try to reveal something about the particular topic.
According to Rainman “The album was actually a whole bunch of ‘bigger pictures’”. The album ranges from ‘taking the piss’ to discussing musical inspiration. This is an album that people who don’t listen to hip-hop can listen to without hating it. The tracks are catchy and have a great beat to bob along to.
Can’t See You (ft. Laneous) opens with a guy waking up to missing his bus, moving into a comprehensive rap on not seeing people. It’s a smooth song but the lyrics confused me to be honest. It was debating how people say he should have glasses and if he had a guide dog they wouldn’t say that; honestly I was baffled.
Muse Sick (ft. Laneous) has a bit of an old jazz beat behind it. The song revolves around talking about his muse; ‘She’s like music to my ears’. The rap and beat do seem a tiny bit disconnected in this song; the words starting of just a bit too low but later in the song evening out.
Big Night (ft. Tommy Illfigga) is a great song. Recognisably a very Australian hip-hop song it’s got a hilarious spoken track in it; a track that I’m sure the listener can connect to. “The music’s got me feeling OH, the drinks got me spinning like WOAH, my girls looking at me like ‘No!’”
The Buzz (ft. Pear) is talking about a mate falling in love, or being in a good relationship; once again I’m lost. I’m confused if this is about a guy and girl hooking up or being in a relationship. Aside from the confusing lyrics the song has a good beat and is a really enjoyable song. Pear from Pear & the Awkward Orchestra offers a different vibe to the song in comparison to the rest of the album.
Overall the album is a great listen for anyone, hip-hop or top 30 lovers alike. The lyrics may range from confusing, to joking, to thoughtful but the album is overall a compilation of enjoyable tracks that will catch the thoughts of anyone who listens to them.
