Lydia, A Sleepless Melody, Way With Words @ Bang! Melbourne (24/08/2013)
Sitting backstage at Bang with American indie rockers Lydia and having a chat with their keyboardist Matt Keller and their singer Leighton Antelman is a great way to kick off the night.
Heading out into the venue Melbourne pop rockers Way With Words are half way through their set which I was informed included covers of Bowling For Soup's 1985 and Panic At The Disco's I Write Sins Not Tragedies.
The young band show why they are already signed and performed along side some great bands such as The Getaway Plan and America's Cartel as they finish off their tight set with their upcoming new single Off The Earth to a smallish crowd.
The crowd isn't much bigger by the time second support and fellow Melbourne pop rockers A Sleepless Melody hit the stage.
After really impressing me not too long ago when they supported Tonight Alive, they don't quite seem to bring it tonight and the crowd unfortunately don't seem too enthused either as they work through tracks from their second EP The Last Teenagers before they end their set with their latest single Can't Break My Heart.
After a changeover of half an hour Lydia finally hit the stage and having never listened to the band before I didn't quite know what to expect.
After they get the lights on the stage dimmed by a fair way they kick things off with their semi-acoustic indie rock which mostly seemed to feature tracks from their latest album Devil and 2008's very popular album Illuminate.
Unfortunately however, most of the songs sounded far too similar and it ended up becoming quite repetitive. The few die hard fans were soaking up every minute, including a big singalong during their final song Hospital, but overall I was glad when the set came to a close. The band are some of the nicest guys I've ever met but their music just is not for me.
