Loon Lake – Thirty Three (17/08/2012)
If there were a medal for the grooviest band in the country at the moment, Loon Lake might just win the gold. Littered through the band’s new EP, ‘Thirty Three’ are hip shaking tunes that are sure to be a feature of many a summer soundtrack.
Opening with ‘The Week’, this song is a little more laid back than the Loon Lake we have come to expect but still features the keen riffs that have become the bands signature. The real centerpiece is of course radio favorite, ‘Bad To Me’; see a doctor if this song doesn’t make your feet start tapping.
The production throughout is a little dirty, and Sam’s vocals are playful yet sincere. It’s not hard to see why Loon Lake’s live shows have become so popular, ‘Cherry Lips’ again showcases that this is a band having a good time.
Title track ‘Thirty Three’s’ placement at track four is a fitting change of pace that allows some time for rest before the boisterous ‘Fantastica’, has you feeling the good vibes again.
Perhaps the most curious song is ‘Heart Stomper’ which is aching in delivery and offers up some great versatility. ‘Thirty Three’ is another strong effort from this up and coming group and it’s not hard to see why these boys have a reputation as a must see band.
