Jordie Lane - Not Built To Last (08/05/2014)
As local venues are closing their doors indefinitely and tours are being cancelled, there are always debates that Australia's music scene is in trouble. And while there may be some truth to this statement, it's fantastic for an artist like Jordie Lane to release an EP which is not a only genuinely great listen, but was recorded with the support of Arts Victoria through the Victoria State Government.
While Not Built To Last was recorded and is released under Jordie Lane's name, the EP itself is the product of six additional musicians who have tirelessly worked together to assemble one of the most engaging releases I've heard in months. Dead Of Light's dreamy instrumentals are complimented by the harmonies of Lane and Clare Reynolds, but it's stand out track Lost In You which really gives Lane his moment to shine. His strong, emotive voice echoes throughout the tune, as he recalls falling in love. That is after all, half the charm of folk music; singing from your heart.
Blending blissful instrumentals through the record which intertwine with the melancholic vocals, Jordie Lane and his band have created a beautiful collection of songs which simply deserve to be heard.
Polished to perfection, and delivered with genuine conviction, you would be hard pressed to find a single fault on Not Built To Last.
