Joel Fisher - Kids In Glass Houses (27/10/2013)
After coming to Australia multiple times, including awesome shows for Soundwave in 2012, punk/pop rockers Kids In Glass Houses will finally be back on our shores for the return of the Australian Vans Warped Tour. I spoke to lead guitarist Joel Fisher who was gearing up for the last set of KIGH’s UK tour.
“We’ve got a gig today in Ipswhich in England, and that’s the last gig of our UK tour. So I had a bit of a celebratory drink last night, which is always good. Fisher explained.
Following the release of their fifth studio album Peace the week before, Joel was excited to be able to unveil his new work in front of a live audience.
“Our record came out about five days ago in the UK, I think it’s next week for the rest of the world. After playing the same old songs for a while now it was nice to be able to bring out our new songs on this tour. So far we have gotten a really great reaction from all the fans.”
Australian fans will be able to see these songs from Peace when they return in November for shows all around the country.
“We have never done a Warped tour before in any sort of means, so it will be good to be finally apart of the history of that. We had such a good time at Soundwave last time and we are really looking forward to coming back! We have toured with New Found Glory before, so we are really looking forward to coming back and seeing them.”
But disappointingly, they will not be clad in Mad Max style outfits like they were for their shows following their last album In Gold Blood.
“We are just going to dress up as ourselves this time around, haha!”
In Gold Blood follows two characters living in a Mad Max inspired world. This time around, Kids in Glass Houses opted not to have a concept.
“We just took this record one song at a time. I am the guitarist in the band, so for me I think I prefer it this way. It allowed me to write songs as creatively as possible without being confined to a theme or certain sound.”
With the busy schedule of touring and recording, they still managed to get some time off in between.
“We got some time off in March. It was pretty nice to come home. I did a lot of relaxing and kayaking and things like that!”
But they still have lots to do before coming to Australia next month.
“We are about to head off to Europe to be shows in Amsterdam and places like that. Then we have two weeks off before going to Australia, so we are pretty damn busy.”
