Gold - RDGLDGRN (30/10/2013)
If you’re a fan of alternative bands, then you will more than likely have taken notice of the trio RDGLDGRN.
The band has shot up out of the unknown within the past year or so, and is getting in the faces of many new, potential music fans with their diverse, blended genre approach.
RDGLDGRN is comprised of three members; Red, Gold and Green. Ahead of the band venturing down under for the forthcoming Vans Australian Warped Tour, The 59th Sound caught up with the bands bass player, Gold.
To kick it off well, we had to get something very important out of the way. Yep, you guessed it, we asked about the bands name!
“Okay, so first and foremost you have to understand that even before we made this band, this is what we went by. Red was red because well, he would always wear red, but sometimes I'd wear my red jersey and he would be like, 'Hey that’s a nice jersey, I like that'. And then I'd be like 'no, fuck you! I’m not Red!'"
"So it was just because we would pick an alternative to Red, to give ourselves an individual identity, in a way sort of making ourselves comical characters to people. So when the time came and we made the band, we were really shitty at naming our band, so we were just like ’Hey fuck, lets just call it Red Gold Green!’. But then the name just looked dumb, so we stuck it all together, took away the vowels and were like, ‘Yeah that looks cool’ , I mean .. whatever works man!”
Gold also let us know how keen the band are to come down under for their first time. “We realize that it’s the Vans Warped Tour, but for us its really us getting to go to tour Australia”, whilst also reassuring us that they are here to get around and meet some people, “We love every second we can get to meet other people outside of our home, especially the ladies.”
For international bands that travel to Australia, there is always one thing they all want to experience, and that's our native animals. "My mind is going to be blown by all the animals that we don’t really have over here… I was telling my friends from Hands Like Houses about how I wanted to really see some Kangaroos when we were over in their country!”
Gold also explained to us that he is super keen for the crowd response whilst they are here for Warped. “Just from talking to various Aussie bands on Warped Tour in America, I’m expecting big things, and I’ll tell you why! Its because I hear that Australian people are pretty big on alternative music and just kind of big on that rap culture in general . A crowd who is into alternative music is definitely my type of crowd!”
Gold basically summarises how excited he is about coming to Australia by telling us that he is “counting down the days” until he is here. “I’m excited to be down at a hot beach and being able to take a dip… Honestly man, I close my eyes and I picture the sun, the ocean and a nice cold drink in my hand and then I combine that with some of the most fun, live shows that you’ll ever perform…. We’re going to make some memories we will never forget, definitely!”
While we had Gold, we got to talk about the bands latest release, the self titled RDGLDGRN and their experience recording at the legendary Sound City Studios!
The excitement alone in Gold’s voice as he described Sound City emphasised that recording at the studio was an amazing experience for the band.
“Oh well Sound City is honestly.. you walk in and just have to stop, breathe and take a break to look around , and just realize how much history is in this place. I mean its had everybody in here.. Michael Jackson use to rehearse there, (members of) The Beatles used to test amps in here, Nirvana were here, there is just so much history in there and it’s a very humble studio. nothing flashy but it feels more like a relaxing home you know? Having that little time In there is something that we will cherish forever!”
RDGRNGLD will be an unmissable act on the Vans Warped Tour, and the band are definitely going to bring their all and come hang out with you all, as Gold said, “I’m definitely want to share some prawns on the Barbie with the Aussies!”.
