Franz Ferdinand, The UV Race @ The Forum Theatre, Melbourne (14/11/2013)
Following the cancellation of Harvest festival, sadness turned to joy when a group of bands announced for the festival declared they would still come down under for some headline shows. Franz Ferdinand was one of those which marks their first headline tour of Australia in four years.
Whoever chose the support band for tonight just may need their hearing checked if they class The UV Race as a decent band. From their woeful vocals to their singer getting his top off and jumping around the stage to their crude and rude comments between songs, the band walking off stage after their half an hour set was definitely the highlight of their woeful, and particularly embarrassing performance.
By the time the lights dimmed for the second time The Forum was packed full of fans keen to see the Scottish four piece do what they do best, put on one hell of a live show.
Franz Ferdinand kicked things off with Bullet from their latest album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. We went back to their 2004 self titled debut next for Dark of the Matinee which had everyone singing along.
The main thing you notice about Franz Ferdinand on stage is just how much they enjoy themselves. The band, for the most part, stick to their latest album playing nine of the ten tracks from it. The massive hit Take Me Out played halfway through the set was a highlight for all.
Goodbye Lovers & Friends brings their main set to a close before the band return for a surprisingly long five song encore which includes another crowd favourite in Michael. To end their final song Outsiders, the three other band members join Paul Thomson at the drum kit for a group drum session which is a brilliant way to bring their incredible live show to an end.
Not only do Franz Ferdinand know how to put on a great performance, they also have a ripping light show. With the promise that they will be back soon we all keenly await that announcement after their performance tonight.
