Flo Rida - Good Feeling EP (21/05/2012)
Jam packed with hits this EP is something you want to own. A re-release of old tracks the Good Feeling EP features the multi-platinum hits ‘Good Feeling’, ‘Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1)’, ‘Club Can’t Handle Me (ft. David Guetta)’, and ‘Wild Ones (ft. SIA)’. Also featured is his original game-changing hit ‘Low (ft. T-Pain)’.
‘Good Feeling’ has been playing on the radio, in clubs, in stadiums and basically anywhere else there is a speaker system. We all know the song, including the great beat and, while repeating, still fun lyrics. The song contains a vocal sample of ‘Something's Got a Hold on Me’ (1962) by Etta James. I am sure any classic music lover is despairing at this rip off but what the song might not have in actual music talent it certainly has in popularity.
Featuring home talent ‘Wild Ones’ is a track Australia has loved since its release last year. The up-track tempo embraces synthesisers but stays well away from electro-pop territory. The vocals by SIA are strong and a great accompaniment to Flo Rida’s rap base.
‘Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1)’ was released in 2010 to mass success. It samples ‘Din Daa Daa’ by German dance singer George Kranz, and ‘Oh Yeah’ by Swiss electronica band Yello. As is common throughout his music, samples are used to ground much of a track that would otherwise be quite empty. ‘Who Dat Girl’ is not as popular as his other songs. The beat is just a little bit off and is quite off-putting in comparison to any of his other tracks.
‘Low’. Most will have danced to this song in a club, at a high-school dance, anywhere; it immediately calls for the crowd to ‘get low’ and most commonly that is exactly what happens. The song is just a little bit too slow to be a real dance hit but as a rap hit it is absolutely a success. The track spent ten consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Also featured are two remixes of Good Feeling. The first is a Carl Trix remix and is a little bit too heavy on the bass. The remix pounds out and could be a great club hit but is just a little headache inducing. The Jaywalker remix is less head-ache inducing while still including a good bass but the beat just seems a bit off for the beginning of the track. That picks up and the remix keeps crowds waiting for the next line with great bass drops and stutters.
