Fall Out Boy @ The Palace Theatre, Melbourne (27/03/2013)
With the release of their new album due around the world in April, the Palace Theatre was packed out with fans waiting to see Fall Out Boy since they went on hiatus in late 2009. Like blink-182 and the Offspring in the 90’s many “2000’s kids” came to relive the nostalgic memories of listening to Fall Out Boy in their childhoods.
There were no support bands for the night, so a DJ music set was played while the theatre packed up. With the lack of any real music, fans were ready to see the boys from Chicago walk on stage.
When they finally did come out, I was quite surprised to see the new look Patrick Stump. Since their hiatus, Stump has lost 60 pounds and looked completely different behind the microphone. Nevertheless, the crowd roared as Fall Out Boy played like they would have 10 years ago. Pete Wentz was even clad in a cape.
They opened with Thriller, the introduction for Infinity on High.
Patrick was noticeably moving around the stage much better than he used to after getting into shape and his presence around the microphone was really impressive. I also don’t think he missed a note the whole night.
They played a variety of songs over the years including This Ain’t a Scene it’s an Arms Race Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today and I Don’t Care. The crowd really got excited when the bass riff to Dance, Dance graced the speakers.
One of their new singles My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark was very catchy and translated well in a live setting. It is very different from their old music and I think if fans buy their newest album expecting old Fall Out Boy, I think they will be a little disappointed.
Between songs, Pete Wentz told a couple of stories and was an absolute gentleman making sure the people in the mosh were ok and hydrated.
The last song Sugar, We're Goin’ Down, was probably the fan favourite for the night and I think would have been a better encore, which included Thanks fr the Mmrs and Saturday.
Fall Out Boy proved to Melbourne that they haven’t lost anything since their hiatus. If you didn’t get the chance to see them this time around, they recently announced that they’ll be back soon.
