Evan & the Brave - Island (06/10/2014)
Evan & The Brave, hailing from Sydney, have been making their way in the world with latest EP, Island, showcasing some great little tracks that you should definitely give a listen.
After getting some attention from single, Lil Monster, which they released in 2012, the band has moved on to writing more dreamy rock pop tracks. First off the EP, Rescuer has a bit of techno style back beat with “ooh”ing and “ahhh”ing in the background. It has echoey vocals accompanying the 80s style synths. The track is quite choppy, with a dozen different genre elements being mixed in. While it doesn’t detract from the quality of the song, it can feel a little repetitive after a while. Stay This Way was previously released as a single and grabbed fans and music lovers alike before the release of their album. The track drips dreamy vocals and sound, the piano and guitar creates a pretty and fuller sound. |
Island, title track of the album, is a more folkier tune with vocal harmonies and a baritone guitar hook that lead a lot of the song. It’s not hard to hear the country style twangs of the guitar and jungle back beats.
Something Starts, the standout track on the album, has jungle like drums and minimalist sounds during the verses. The bridge is probably the catchiest part of the whole song before they bounce into the rock chorus which also has a few country style twangs. Wind finishes of the album with a laidback sound. The track has a smooth rhythm and layered vocals.
Evan & The Brave have created a nice little summer album here, with them moving into dappling in different music genres. They have done a decent job and it will be exciting to see what they will do next.
