Eskimo Joe - Love Is A Drug (Single) (03/07/2011)
There were definitely mixed feelings upon my first impression of Eskimo Joe’s second single Love Is A Drug from their upcoming 5th studio album, Ghosts of the Past (out August). On one side you have the impressive reputation of Eskimo Joe drawing you in – who could forget the monster release of Black Fingernails, Red Wine in oh-six? On the other hand, well, just look at the song title! I’ll be the first to admit my contempt for those stereotypical song/album names, more often than not regarding love.
The WA band definitely knows how to write a catchy tune – whether it’s due to a memorable melody line or repetitive lyrics is, however, debatable. In essence, there really isn’t anything terrible about the song. The problem is that there’s nothing remarkably great about it either. For Eskimo Joe fans, it’s unfortunately a let down. Let’s just hope that this isn’t foreshadowing what’s to come in August.
