Brett Anderson - Buried In Verona (11/11/2013)
Before their upcoming set at the Vans Warped Tour, The 59th Sound spoke with Brett Anderson, vocalist of Buried In Verona. Anderson touched base with the hype around playing the Vans Warped Tour, inspirational bands and the journey the band has been through leading to the resolution found to continue playing despite the hate, some members of the hardcore community have thrown their way. With intense energy and the possibility of new material, Buried In Verona are prepared to rival the headliners for a memorable performance.
So how does it feel to be a part of the first Australian Warped tour since 2001?
I’m pretty stoked to be on it, I remember when I was young and going to it they had it on a massive oval and I remember hearing about how big it was in it America. So yeah, pretty excited to be on it and it so happens to be the first one in quite some while so it should be a big one.
The line-up boast some impressive names, are there any particular bands you’d be interested in meeting?
Pretty keen to meet and chat to The Offspring just because I grew up listening to them and they were a big inspiration for getting me into the alternative and punk scene which started my journey into heavier music. Also pretty keen to meet Parkway and play with them, I haven’t met them and we’ve both been in the same sort of vein of the industry for so long now, they just seem like legends of dudes and I’d want to catch up the Amity dudes as well.
What can the people expect from Buried In Verona during the tour, anything special?
I guess we’re gonna go as crazy as possibly can and make sure we’ve got loads more energy than anyone else, we hope we can put on the best show we can.
Now I understand the latest single “I Am Hate” held a message, can you expand on the idea it represents?
That was a song that at the time was just a random demo lying around. Also at that time we were coping a lot of shit as usual and decided to write the lyrics around that side of the music industry and how it makes us feel about all that shit that gets talks about us, when it’s basically all bullshit…the single turned out good and we’re pretty happy with the song and it seemed to get a good reaction from the public and the fans.
Since their establishment in 2006 Buried in Verona have grown and are now accustomed to the larger festivals, recently playing overseas in Europe. It also acts as a great platform for new material, could you tell us about this?
We’ve recently got back from Detroit two weeks ago and we recorded our next album with Joey Sturgis and are hoping for it to be out early next year.
With a new album coming out soon, will you be previewing new material on this tour, or saving their live debuts for another time?
There is a possibility that we’ll play one or two tracks, it just depends if we’re allowed and if we can. We’re hoping to do something new before the tour. Like releasing a new single and playing that.
