Bosnian Rainbows - Torn Maps (Single) (19/02/2013)
Last year, I had the privilege of attending Bosnian Rainbow’s Melbourne performance at the Corner Hotel. Expecting Omar to perform three to four songs over an hour, instead we witnessed a debut tour from one of music’s most exciting new acts.
Bosnian Rainbows began when band members Omar Rodríguez-López and Deantoni Parks put their main project, The Mars Volta, into hiatus. Recruiting Le Butcherettes vocalist Teri Gender Bender and Nicci Kasper on keyboards, they are a variation of the Omar Rodríguez-López Group.
Torn Maps, the first official single from Bosnian Rainbows, showcases the promising sound of this fresh and exciting project. From Omar's exceptional guitar work to the charismatic and politically rampant lyrics sung by Teri, each member of Bosnian Rainbows contributes their own unique gifts to Torn Maps, resulting in a perfect debut single.
What’s most impressive is that Torn Maps, along with the rest of the album, has been recorded live in single takes, rather than individually mixed instrumental sessions. The result is a raw and impressive sound, and a promising tease of their upcoming debut album.
