Alex Wade - Whitechapel (04/02/2014)
Aural onslaught. We implore you to find a better description of Texas' deathcore heavyweights, Whitechapel.
Since their inception, they have been dominating the stage and stealing the deathcore limelight for seven years and they have only been humbled by it.
"It's crazy! You ask me seven years ago if I ever thought of playing music as a career, period I would think not," guitarist Alex Wade says on their success with a thick, heavy Texan accent. "Through us among the right decisions in our career and always among this our number on priority we've grown ourselves into a successful business. To know we can make a product and make a career out of it is astounding."
Whitechapel are gearing up to jump on one of Australia's biggest touring festivals, Soundwave and the band are all too familiar with it.
"We got the chance to do it in 2010 and it was amazing," Wade says fondly. "When people ask us where we've been we always say Australia first because it's so awesome. It's the place everyone wants to go to. It's like vacation, the weather is beautiful and the girls are beautiful, it such an awesome time!"
"We're so excited to come back for a Soundwave! It's crazy to be on the same bill as Green Day and so many friends too like Suicide Silence, Deez Nuts, GWAR, Asking Alexandria, it's awesome. I can't wait this see Green Day! I have never had the chance to see them and I can't wait; a little odd seeing as I'm in a deathcore band!" he laughs. "I grew up as a little skater listening to punk and stuff so I'm familiar with them!"
The band are in the midst of mastering their new record and Alex shared with us some information about the album's sound and recording.
"It's definitely something new. It's definitely very dark and heavy but I think it expands on the sound from our self-titled. We developed a modern Whitehchapel sound but this is expanding on our previous records. I'm really excited as this works off the sound we've developed over our career and I can't wait to see what the kids think!"
The band recorded the drums in Florida but then they were lucky enough to work on the rest of the album at Alex's home studio.
"It's nice to not have to spend a month in Florida, we can just spend a week there and then come home and finish the recording. It's a more comfortable and happier recording environment."
Although the album is looking to come out after Soundwave, the band are keen on looking at coming back sooner rather than later.
"If Soundwave goes over really well and we feel like there's a demand for us on the new record then we will definitely look into coming back!"
