Alex Lloyd - Urban Wilderness (26/03/2014)
It's been five years since the release of Alex Lloyd's fifth studio album Good In The Face of a Stranger, in that time Alex has lived in the UK and written for artists such as Passenger. Many would say he was well overdue for a new album and it seems he agreed as he's now released Urban Wilderness.
We're greeted with a bluesy type beat before some female vocals of “da da dum” repeat over and over. Alex's distinct voice comes in and not long later the track steps up a beat. Overall however, Black Cat is a disappointing opening track.
New single Waterfall is the second track on the album and is a step in the right direction. A very catchy song that will get stuck in your head days after listening to the record.
After a few more mellower songs we get to Good Thing, another very upbeat song that is also getting a great reception at his live shows.
Better The Less You Know was the first single from Urban Wilderness and is certainly a very weird song but still thoroughly enjoyable. Featuring a lot of “ding's” and “dang's” from Alex it gets in your head based on that alone. Definitely the stand out track of the album for it's zaniness if nothing else!
One of the more beautiful tracks on the album is Honestly. A true love song written from the heart and another stand out from the album.
For fans it's great to have Mr. Lloyd back in Australia and releasing albums. Especially albums as solid as this one. Let's hope we don't have to wait another six years for the next one though!
